Writing an essay really quick
I need to check if my sentence is grammatically correct.
Their differing interactions with society cause the reader to either encounter sympathy, or the lack of.

That doesn't make sense to me, I could be wrong.
Also in the title, its spelt grammar, sorry for being a nazi :p

I have never heard it used in that way before o.o thank you for explaining although i did think thats what you were getting at.

Differing interactions with society either provoke sympathy or the lack thereof.
(One does not encounter sympathy; they must feel this emotion, so provoke works).
If you must say "the reader" in the sentence, write "from the reader" after thereof.
Thereof is correct.
