How do I let him down easy?

We're several states apart.
We're both working and I'm going to college too. It could be the stress of our lives, because we've spent a month and two weeks together and he was always the same sweet guy. He's even a nice guy when we're apart sometimes too.
I'm not sure if he can't react well to stress like me, or if he really is hiding who he really is.
I'll talk to him tomorrow, after I gather my thoughts. This may be for the best, but I don't want to let go of an amazing guy just because he can't handle stress and I can't either. That's the shitty part of relationships... the ups and downs...

Thank you for helping me, it means a lot to me and I probably don't make much sense but thank you so much for helping me.
