Reformatting will do nothing. If they really want to catch you they can find the information on your hard drive after you've reformatted several times.

Just get rid of the HDD and destroy it so the data is completely not able to be retrieved. Depending on how far you are willing to go to avoid it, there are other options. And the police will also need to go to court for a warrant to search. If they get it for the wrong thing I don't think they can bring you in for the crime...

If you are worried about your parents, do what you think would completely clear these charges on them. I have never gotten into trouble with the law so my parents haven't been in that position... sorry I can't be of more help. Feel free to message me on live messenger or PM me. My dad is a judge and my brother is in law school. I can try to get you some legal advise to some extent...
