Data recovery from External HDD
#1
Hello all you wonderful people!

Background
I have a Western Digital 300 GB HDD and a PC with specs as follows:

Problem

I cannot access the data on my HDD because there is no assigned drive letter. I need to access the HDD. It is not showing up in explorer.

Notes
  • My HDD does not show up in explorer.
  • It shows up in Computer Management with out a drive letter.
  • The option to assigne drive letters and paths is greyed out.
  • I believe the cause of the problem is that someone did not eject the HDD before unplugging it.
  • I am recovering data with large file sizes. (Videos & final cut projects.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Guidance to a program that will solve my problems would also be great. Let me know the name of the program and I will go and download it from the manufacturer's website after paying for it. Non

Oh sorry its greyed out. Then do this 10 min data recovery.

First you need get data back ntfs/fat. Then you'll also need Partition Table dr 3.

Open get databack ntfs and let it run for a min or two then stop it.
Scroll down and look for the index.dat.
Copy it somewhere safe but not on the drive your recovering from.
Then open partition Table dr 3. Use the write index function and choose the index.dat file you recovered.
Wolla all your drive data will be back.
Now check the partition with partition Table dr and let it fix the structural errors.lut when done go to cmd run a chkdsk /f just to be sure then your done

Go to control panel, then disk management and add a Partition Letter to the drive, then format using quick-format.
