Sooo, cleaning out my granddad’s old house this weekend and found a bizarre-looking coin at the back of a drawer. Not a coin enthusiast really, but can’t shake off the feeling this could be somewhat of a lucky find, or at least something with a story behind it.

It’s about the size of a quarter, but thicker, with a really worn face on one side. Kind of looks like a Roman emperor or something, with a weird crest on the other. The edges are uneven too like it’s been hand-hammered into shape. Definitely not something you’d find down the back of the sofa for sure!

Any thoughts before I move forward and take it to a coin expert? I’ve done a bit of online research but there’s a jungle of info out there and I’m pretty lost. So if any of you have got any knowledge on this or have run into something similar, I’d be thrilled to hear!

Also, while we’re on the topic, anyone ever come across something weird and wonderful in an unexpected place? Maybe a lucky charm hiding away or a relic from an unknown age? My curious cat senses are tingling!

Looking forward to hearing your stories and insights! Thanks, folks!

Sounds like a cool find, mate! I’m no expert but based on what you’ve written, it could be ancient. Or, someone’s university project from the 80s - you never know! 😄

Maybe snap a photo and check out coin identification apps before meeting an expert. Loads of online communities could also help identify it. Not much of a coin guy myself, but I once found an old pocket watch in my great-aunt’s attic. Turned out to be from the early 1900s! Anyway, keep us posted on your coin, would love to know what it is!

Oh, cool stuff mate! Love a good treasure hunt. I’d second what’s been said about coin identification apps, they can actually be pretty legit. I used one when I found some old-looking pennies in my granddad’s shed. Turned out they were just regular old pennies from the 70s, but it was still a fun experience. They’d probably have a ball figuring out what on earth you’ve found! Whatever it is though, whether ancient artifact or uni project, it’s still a great find. It’s the story that counts, right? Please do keep us in the loop!

Just seen this! Good on ya! It’s such a thrill to find somethin’ neat like that. Those coin ID apps can be a real gem, use ’em myself sometimes. It ain’t always about value, sometimes it’s the history and story like you said. Worst case, you’ve got a cool convo piece. Can’t wait to hear what it turns out to be!

Right you are, mate! Nothing beats the thrill of a good find. I’ve used those coin ID apps before too, quite handy they are! Regardless of its real value, whatever story or history that old coin’s got definitely ups the cool factor. Stick it on a shelf, it’ll get people talkin’. Can’t wait to hear what it turns out to be either. Keep us posted, eh?
