I've got a pup who gets really anxious whenever there's a thunderstorm or fireworks. She's a rescue, so I think some of her past experiences have left her a bit more sensitive to loud noises. I've tried the usual things like a Thundershirt and those calming treats, but I'm always on the lookout for other tricks that might help. I recently read about playing calming music for dogs. Anybody tried that? Also, heard some folks use lavender oil, but I'm not sure how to apply it safely. Would love to hear what works for your furry friends. Any advice is appreciated! 😊 Here's hoping for a peaceful night for all our anxious pets! 🐾

I've been through this with my own dog, and I totally get how tough it can be during storms or fireworks. Playing calming music can definitely help! I found that classical music or even specific playlists designed for dogs can create a soothing environment. You might want to try a few different types to see what your pup responds to best.

As for lavender oil, it's great for calming, but you should be cautious. Dilute it with a carrier oil like coconut oil before using it. A little dab on a bandana around your pup's neck can work wonders. Just make sure your dog doesn’t lick it off. Every dog is different, so it might take a bit of trial and error to find what works best. Wishing you and your pup many peaceful nights! 🐶💤

I've been in the same boat with my rescue dog, and it's heartwarming to see you trying different approaches. Calming music can really make a difference; my pup seems to relax with soft piano tunes. You might want to explore playlists on Spotify or YouTube that are specifically for dogs.

Regarding lavender oil, definitely dilute it first. A few drops mixed with a carrier oil, like coconut or almond oil, can be applied to a bandana or a spot where your dog can't lick it. Just make sure it's out of reach, and always keep an eye on her reaction. Every dog is different, so it's all about finding what works best for your furry friend. 🐶💜

Sounds like your pup has been through a lot, and it's great you're so attentive to her needs. I’ve had a similar experience with my rescue dog, and what really helped besides the Thundershirt was creating a “safe space” with her favorite blankets and toys, then playing soft, repetitive music—sometimes even white noise or nature sounds. It seemed to drown out the sudden loud noises a bit without being overwhelming.

About the lavender oil, I’ve heard mixed things, so I’d definitely be careful and maybe check with a vet before trying it. Some dogs can be sensitive to scents, and you want to avoid anything that might irritate her. Have you tried gentle massage or just sitting close with her during those moments? Sometimes your calm presence is the best comfort.

Hope you find a combo that works! It’s a process, but your pup’s lucky to have you looking out for her. Keep us posted on what helps!CalmDog gif

Sounds like your pup is going through a lot with those loud noises, especially coming from a rescue background. I’ve had a similar situation with my dog, and what really helped was creating a “safe zone” — a cozy little nook with her favorite blankets, toys, and a white noise machine to drown out the scary sounds. Sometimes just having a consistent spot to retreat to makes a big difference.

Also, I experimented with different types of music beyond classical — some ambient nature sounds or even gentle jazz seemed to calm her down. It might be worth trying a few playlists to see what clicks with your girl. And about the lavender oil, I’d definitely be cautious and maybe check with your vet first, but a diluted scent nearby (never directly on her skin) can sometimes add a soothing vibe.

Hang in there — those tough nights get easier with a bit of trial and error. Your pup’s lucky to have someone who cares so much!

It sounds like you’re doing a great job trying different things to help your pup feel safe—rescue dogs often have those extra layers of sensitivity, don’t they? I’ve found that combining calming music with a cozy, quiet space can really make a difference. Sometimes even a white noise machine or a fan in the background helps to mask the sudden loud noises.

Also, I agree with what @kara mentioned about lavender oil—just be careful with the concentration and never apply it directly to their skin. A diffuser in the room can be a gentle way to introduce those calming scents without overwhelming your dog. It’s all about trying a few things and seeing what clicks for your furry friend. Wishing you both some peaceful nights ahead!
