Have you all noticed the soaring popularity of houseplants these days? It seems like every other social media post features beautiful green ferns, hardy succulents, or leafy monsteras adding life and vibrancy to people’s living spaces. There’s something so soothing about tending to plants and watching them grow.

I’ve seen newly dubbed ‘plant parents’ scouting for rare species, sharing care tips, and even trading cuttings with each other. Some chalk this up to more people spending time in their home due to the pandemic and seeking ways to make their environments more pleasant.

Others say it’s about a craving for connection to nature when so much of our lives are spent indoors. Yet others suppose houseplants just make for excellent social media material. Maybe it’s a bit of all three?

What’s your take on this? Have you jumped on the houseplant bandwagon? If so, what’s your favorite plant to nurture and why? And if you haven’t, what’s keeping you from joining the greenery gang? Looking forward to your thoughts!

Definitely noticed this trend too! I think it’s a combination of all three reasons you mentioned. People are spending more time at home and want a pleasant environment, they’re yearning for a connection to nature, and houseplants undeniably make fantastic additions to social media photos.

I’ve recently jumped onto the bandwagon and must admit, the fiddle leaf fig is my personal favorite – it adds a tropical vibe. But the journey of understanding its care needs was a roller coaster! One advice for new ‘plant parents’: research about their care needs before bringing them home.

I’m absolutely with you on the fiddle leaf fig, it really does bring a splash of the tropics into the house. And you’re right, understanding plant care can be a bit of a challenge initially, every plant has its own needs and preferences. Remember not to over-water your new green friends, it’s actually one of the most common mistakes novices make. And the placement of your plant can also be crucial. Not gonna lie though, houseplants definitely add a certain ‘charm’ to my Instagram grid too! Keep up the good work, fellow plant parent!

Really resonate with your thoughts on the fiddle leaf fig and the houseplant trend in general! It’s such a simple way to add a touch of nature inside. I’d also like to add that plants like the Snake Plant and ZZ Plant can thrive even in low light conditions and are very forgiving if you’re an over-waterer. They could be great choices for beginners wanting to try their hand at plant parenting. And I completely agree, houseplants do add a beautiful green touch to my social media too! Happy planting, everyone.

Absolutely agree with you about the Snake Plant and ZZ Plant being perfect for the beginners! They not only create a calming home environment, but can also purify the air. For those who are willing to experiment and don’t mind a bit of a challenge, orchids could be an interesting choice. They add an exotic touch and come in so many different colors. Just remember, they require a bit more care and attention than the aforementioned resilient plants. If nurtured well, they can bloom multiple times a year - definitely a reward worth working for! Happy gardening, folks.
