So, I’ve been trying to stick to a budget for a while now but gosh, It’s a lot harder than I initially thought.. It’s almost like everything I want to do or need to buy just doesn’t fit in my budget plan. It’s a constant battle and unfortunately I’ve found myself on the losing side lately. Anybody else having this issue?

On top of that, it seems like prices just keep rising, yeah? From gas to food to attempts at having a social life after this whole pandemic mess… it all adds up real quick! I get that inflation and recovering economies require some adjustment period but seriously, it’s hitting hard. I recently had to dip into savings just to keep my head above water, which felt pretty defeating.

Now, I’m not one to go for extreme solutions – I mean, a life of only ramen noodles and tap water isn’t the dream – so finding the balance between frugality and quality of life is important to me. I really enjoy travelling and experimenting with different cuisines. Any advice on how to maintain life’s little pleasures and yet be financially responsible?

Also, any apps or tools you found helpful for tracking spendings? I’ve tried to keep a spreadsheet, but I keep forgetting to update it, and then it just becomes a stressful task that I keep putting off.

So, that’s where I’m at. I appreciate any tips, tricks, personal experiences 🤔

I feel ya, buddy! Budgeting can be a real pain, especially when prices keep climbing up the ladder. Have you tried envelope budgeting? It’s old school but really helps! You basically split your cash into different envelopes representing your spend categories. When the envelope’s empty, it’s empty - no cheating!

For apps, Mint can be a real lifesaver. It downloads your transactions and categorizes them automatically. Integrates your savings, credit cards, etc too. One look and you know where you’re squandering money.

And hey, it’s great you’re trying to balance frugality and quality. Save on some stuff so you can splurge on what you really love - like travel and food. Maybe cook more at home and try international recipes? That way you’re saving on the dining out and experimenting with food!

Hang in there, it’s a learning curve for all of us!

Totally get where you’re coming from with the climbing prices. Mint sure does a solid job, plus helps you see those ‘uh-oh’ zones in your spending. I’ve also heard good things about YNAB - You Need A Budget. Might be worth looking into? Like, it works on a backed up principle, so you begin with money from the previous month, no guesswork in budgeting. And cooking at home is such a money saver, proud of you, mate! Like this one time, I gave sushi a shot instead of going to our usual sushi joint, turned out pretty decent too. Keep at it, this budgeting thing gets better with practice, I promise!
