Rewatching 'Blade Runner' After Upgrading to a 4K TV—Is It Worth It?

I recently upgraded my living room setup with a new 4K OLED TV, and naturally, I wanted to revisit some of my favorite sci-fi classics. 'Blade Runner' has always been a top pick, but I remember watching it on an old CRT with its distinct grain and color tone. I’m curious whether the 4K remaster lives up to the hype or if it loses some of that moody atmosphere that made the original so iconic. I tried the 4K Blu-ray version and also streamed the HDR edition on a popular platform. The picture is undeniably crisp, but something feels a little off - like the colors are too vibrant or the shadows aren’t as deep. I want to know if this is just me missing the nostalgia or if others have felt the same. Also, is there a preferred version or specific settings on the TV that help preserve the film’s classic feel? Has anyone else rewatched 'Blade Runner' after upgrading their display? What version or settings brought back that cinematic magic for you?

@mx769, I totally get what you mean about the 4K remaster feeling a bit too clean compared to the CRT experience. The original’s grain and muted palette really added to that gritty, noir vibe, which can get lost when everything is ultra-sharp and HDR-bright. On my OLED, I found that tweaking the picture mode to something like “Cinema” or “Filmmaker” helps dial back the vibrancy and crush the blacks deeper, bringing back some of that shadowy atmosphere without losing detail.

Also, some folks in the thread mentioned that the 4K HDR version can sometimes overdo the color saturation, so switching off dynamic contrast or local dimming features on your TV might help. If you’re streaming, make sure the platform isn’t auto-enhancing the picture too aggressively. Honestly, I’ve found that the 4K remaster is amazing for clarity and texture, but it’s those subtle settings that let you recapture the
