Sneaking in Daily Sketches Amidst My 2-Year-Old’s Zoom Playdates

Lately, I’ve been trying to keep up with my daily sketching habit, but it’s been a challenge since my 2-year-old’s Zoom playdates usually dominate the living room in the afternoons. I’ve set up a small folding table in the corner with my sketchbook and pencils, but the constant background noise and occasional toddler interruptions make it hard to focus or finish anything. I’ve tried using noise-cancelling headphones and timing my sketches for early mornings before the chaos, but mornings are rushed and often don’t leave me enough time to settle into the creative flow. I’m hoping to find a way to carve out at least 20-30 minutes daily, ideally without needing to barricade myself away or miss out on my kiddo’s social time. Has anyone managed to juggle creative time with a young child’s virtual playdates? How do you create a space that feels both accessible for your child and inspiring for your art? Any simple hacks to minimize distractions or set boundaries without causing fuss?
