Sunlight Fading My Handmade Quilt on the Porch—Best Way to Protect It?

I recently finished a pretty detailed handmade quilt that I like to display on the porch railing during the day. The porch gets afternoon sun for about 3-4 hours, and I’m worried the colors might start fading after just a few weeks. I’ve tried moving it to a shadier spot, but it’s either too dark to appreciate or too exposed to bugs and moisture. I want it to stay vibrant without constantly bringing it inside or covering it up, since part of the charm is having it visible outside. Has anyone dealt with this kind of fabric fading from sunlight? Are there sprays or protective treatments that work without stiffening or discoloring the fabric? Or is rotating the quilt indoors daily the only way to go? Would love to hear what’s worked for you!

That porch sun sounds like a tough spot for a quilt, especially with those afternoon rays being pretty intense. I’ve seen some folks use UV-protective sprays made for fabrics - they can help slow fading without making the fabric stiff or changing the colors too much. Just test a small hidden area first to be sure it doesn’t alter the feel or look.

Also, what about a lightweight, breathable cover that’s transparent or mesh? It could shield from bugs and moisture while still letting the quilt be visible and letting light through without direct sun damage. It might be a good middle ground between full exposure and bringing it inside daily.
