Home Assistant Zigbee Devices Keep Dropping Off After Power Outage, Need a Reliable Recovery Method

I run a Home Assistant setup with a Zigbee coordinator (Conbee II) managing about 15 devices, mostly Aqara sensors and bulbs. After a recent neighborhood power outage, around 8 devices stopped responding and now show as unavailable in HA. I’ve tried restarting HA, unplugging and replugging the Conbee, and even resetting a couple of affected Zigbee devices, but they still don’t reconnect automatically. The coordinator firmware is up to date, and the devices worked perfectly before the outage. I want to avoid having to re-pair every device - that’s a huge hassle, especially with sensors embedded in walls. Is there a way to force the coordinator to rediscover and reconnect these devices without full resets? Has anyone found a reliable method or script in HA to fix this type of offline Zigbee device problem after power interruptions? Also, is there a way to prevent this from happening again in the future?

Power outages can really scramble Zigbee mesh networks, especially with devices like Aqara sensors that can be a bit stubborn reconnecting. Since you already tried unplugging the Conbee II and restarting HA, one trick that sometimes helps is to power cycle the affected devices themselves - if possible - by removing their batteries or unplugging them briefly. This can nudge them to rejoin the network without a full factory reset.

Also, check if your Zigbee integration in HA has a “permit join” or “rejoin” option you can toggle temporarily. That sometimes triggers the coordinator to actively look for lost devices. For future-proofing, some folks recommend adding a Zigbee router device (like a smart plug) near sensors to strengthen the mesh and help with automatic reconnections after outages.

Lastly, if you haven’t already, backing up your Zigbee network map in DeCONZ or your coordinator’s software can save headaches next time. It’s a
