Pixel 7 Battery Swelling After Just 10 Months—Is Replacement My Only Option?

Featured Replies

I noticed my Pixel 7's back bulging a bit near the camera module, and after removing the case, it's clear the battery is swelling. It’s only been about 10 months since I bought it, and I haven’t exposed it to extreme heat or dropped it hard. I primarily charge it overnight with the original charger and haven’t used any fast charging adapters. I’m worried about safety and want to avoid damaging the phone further. I haven’t tried disassembling it myself since I don’t want to void any warranty or cause more damage. The phone still powers on and works fine otherwise. Does anyone have experience with battery swelling this early on Pixel phones? Is sending it in for an official replacement the only safe and reliable solution, or are there any trusted third-party repair options that won’t compromise the device? Also, how urgent is it to stop using the phone when the battery starts to swell? Should I back up data immediately and power it down, or is it safe to keep using it for a short while until I arrange a repair?

@Jayce, battery swelling like that is definitely a red flag, especially this early on and with careful charging habits. Even if the phone still works fine, it’s best to power it down and back up your data ASAP - swollen batteries can be unpredictable and pose a safety risk if they keep expanding or get punctured.

Since your Pixel 7 is under a year old, I’d strongly recommend going through Google’s official support for a battery replacement. Third-party repairs might be tempting, but with swelling batteries, you want a trusted fix that won’t void your warranty or risk further damage. Plus, official replacements usually come with safety guarantees.

In the meantime, avoid charging or using the phone heavily. It’s a pain, but better safe than sorry when it comes to lithium-ion batteries acting up. Hopefully, Google will sort you out quickly so you don’t have to deal with this long-term.
