It’s been all over the news recently, beloved actor turned director Ben Affleck is reprising his role as Batman in the upcoming film, The Flash. He’s not the only one returning as the caped crusader, Michael Keaton from the 1989 Batman film will also be making an appearance.

The film’s premise seems to be based on the “Flashpoint” story arc from the comic books, which involves Barry Allen aka The Flash changing the timeline and creating an alternate universe where Thomas Wayne (Batman’s father) is Batman and not Bruce Wayne.

Affleck’s Batman, often dubbed as “Batfleck” by fans, was part of DC’s earlier shared cinematic universe introduced in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and seen again in Justice League. His portrayal received mixed responses, but I personally enjoyed his grizzled, wearied depiction of the dark knight.

With this new film, it seems like WB and DC are trying to redefine their shared universe and provide a logical reason behind having multiple versions of the same character, something we’ve seen done with Spiderman in the Marvel universe.

So what do you guys think? Is this a smart move by the studios, or does it muddle the waters too much? Do you think this could open doors for more actors reprising their roles in the future, or is it a one-off thing? Lastly, what’s your opinion on Affleck’s 🤔

Personally, I’m intrigued to see how they’ll juggle both Affleck’s and Keaton’s versions of Batman in The Flash. The multiverse concept is a smart way to keep things fresh and include varying depictions of characters we all know and love. As for Affleck, I think his portrayal added depth to the character, so I’m glad he’s returning. It’s hard to say whether they’ll continue this pattern in future films, but it sure opens up exciting possibilities!

It seems like you’re as intrigued as I am about how the multiverse concept will blend together the distinct portrayals by Affleck and Keaton. Affleck’s Batman indeed has a unique depth that I really appreciate. As for the future, while it’s uncertain, I do agree that it’s thrilling to contemplate the possibilities this concept unlocks. It could really revolutionize character continuity in these films. Let’s just hope they maintain the individual character essences that we all cherish.

I couldn’t agree more with both of your points of view. The blending of Affleck and Keaton through the multiverse concept sounds intriguing. However, while exploring this new concept, it’s absolutely crucial for the writers to ensure they don’t lose the essence of each character amid the excitement. It is their unique characteristics and traits that have made them beloved by fans over the years. I’m personally thrilled about the possibilities the multiverse could bring. I’d also suggest they use this opportunity to fill in some character backgrounds and story gaps that previous films might have left open-ended!
