So I’ve been playing Apex Legends on my gaming PC (i7-9700K, RTX 2070, 16GB RAM) and noticed this annoying lag spike every time I swap guns during combat. It’s not a constant frame drop - just a brief stutter that happens right as I hit the weapon wheel or scroll through my loadout. I’ve tried updating my graphics drivers, lowered some in-game settings, and disabled background apps, but it still happens. My ping stays stable, so I don’t think it’s network related. It’s frustrating because that split second of lag sometimes costs me fights. Has anyone else experienced this specific hitch on PC? Any ideas on what else I could check or tweak to fix that weapon switch stutter? Also, does this sound like a hardware bottleneck or something software-related?

That brief stutter when swapping weapons sounds like it could be related to how Apex loads textures or models on the fly. Even with your solid setup, the game might be streaming in assets from the drive, causing that hitch. If you’re on an HDD, switching to an SSD could help a lot here.

Also, have you tried disabling any overlay software like Discord or GeForce Experience? Sometimes those can cause microstutters during quick actions. Another thing I’ve seen is tweaking the “Texture Streaming Budget” in Apex’s config files to better match your VRAM, which can smooth out these hiccups.

Since your ping is stable and you’ve updated drivers, it’s probably not network or a CPU bottleneck. More likely a software or disk streaming issue. Worth a shot to check your disk usage during gameplay and maybe run the game in borderless windowed mode to see if that changes anything.
