I recently upgraded my bearded dragon’s enclosure to a larger tank with a deeper sand substrate, hoping it’d give him more room to explore and dig. But ever since the change, he’s been burrowing constantly, almost obsessively, and sometimes he even hides under the sand for long stretches. He used to be pretty chill and basked out in the open, but now he seems a bit more restless. I’ve checked the temperature and lighting, and those seem to be within the right range. I also tried adding some hides and rearranging decorations, but the digging hasn’t slowed down. I’m wondering if this behavior could mean he’s stressed or uncomfortable with the new setup, or if it’s just him enjoying the deeper substrate the way beardies do in the wild? Has anyone else seen their bearded dragon get this hyper-focused on burrowing after moving to a bigger tank? Should I worry about the long hiding periods under the sand? Any tips on how to help him feel more settled would be great!
