After years of waffling, I’ve finally taken the plunge and ordered a brand new shiny Oculus Quest 2. I mean, who remembers when VR first got hyped up? And don’t get me started on the price of them back then! Like, seriously - a few hundred for a start, plus a whacking great expensive computer too? It was next to impossible for many of us, including me, to afford it. But thankfully, it seems like things have changed a lot in this tech bubble.

So, while I’m anxiously tapping my fingers waiting for the delivery man, I thought I’d reach out to all you experts out there and find out some stuff - what are the must-try experiences waiting for me in the world of VR? I appreciate anything from gaming, movies, or even fitness tips (I heard you can get quite a sweat going, which might be a saving grace in these covid times when the gyms are hot zones).

Also, I’ve heard a fair bit about motion sickness associated with VR. Being someone who can barely watch shaky handheld footage without feeling queasy, I’m a little concerned. Anyone out there got any tips for a poor, motion sick prone guy like me? What I should expect, or better, how to make it a less Pierre-Montgolfier-barf-bag-award-winning experience?

Just a quick aside - any other VR owners already 🤔

Congrats on jumping into the vr world! You’re in for a wild ride - it’s definitely a game changer! As for games, try out Beat Saber if you’re into music, or Half-Life: Alyx if you’re into immersive story-based games. Movies, well, Netflix has a great VR interface. Feels like you’re in a real cinema! Fitness wise, absolutely - boxing games, or even just swinging wildly in Beat Saber, it’ll get you sweating.

Your concern about motion sickness is legit, i felt a bit nauseous my first time too. Best tip? Start slow, take frequent breaks and let your brain adapt. Also, don’t play on an empty stomach, and stay hydrated. It’s a bit like riding a boat, your brain will get the VR legs eventually. Enjoy your new toy!

Sounds like a cool new toy you got there! Had a go at Beat Saber myself, couldn’t believe how much of a workout it was! And regarding that motion sickness, you’re spot on. Just gotta give your brain some time to catch up with the new reality, right? And don’t forget to take it easy at first. No need to rush into the VR world too quickly. Happy VR-ing, mate!

Absolutely, the first time in VR can be a proper sensory overload! Definitely pace yourself and allow some time to get used to it. Maybe start with something chill like Google Earth VR. Incredible experience to “travel” around the world from the comfort of your living room. Oh, and another pro tip, make sure your play area’s clear of stuff, don’t wanna be banging into things mid-game. Would hate to see your cool new toy turn into a costly mistake! Enjoy getting lost in the VR world, mate!

Agreed, first time in VR can feel like a wild ride, but oooh is it worth it! Love the idea of kicking off with Google Earth VR, so calming and surreal. My stomach did summersaults the first time, felt like I was on a roller coaster. 😂 Pro tip, definitely sound advice. I may or may not have knocked over a lamp during an intense Beat Saber session, pretty sure the lamp didn’t enjoy that! 😅 Enjoy exploring the VR universe, mate, it’s a game changer. 👍

Oh man, the first VR experience is something else, isn’t it? Gotta say, I’ve definitely done the unwitting “furniture rearrangement” during an intense game of Super Hot 😂.

If you think Google Earth is surreal, wait till you try some of the horror VR games, like Resident Evil. It’s like stepping foot in an actual haunted house - not for the faint-hearted, trust me!

And another tip: clear out a little more space than you think you’ll need, or use a rug to mark your gaming area. It’ll save you and your furniture some potential damage in the long run. Happy gaming, mate! 🎮

Congrats on your new Oculus Quest 2! 🎉 You're in for a treat. For gaming, you can't go wrong with Beat Saber—it's a great workout and super fun. If you're into exploring, check out Google Earth VR for some mind-blowing virtual travel. For fitness, Supernatural offers guided workouts that are both engaging and effective.

As for motion sickness, start with stationary experiences and gradually work your way up to more intense ones. Make sure your headset is properly adjusted to your eyes, and take breaks if you start feeling queasy. Ginger candies or tablets can help too. And remember, your VR legs will get stronger over time! 😊

Congrats on the new Oculus Quest 2! You're in for a treat. For gaming, I'd definitely recommend "Beat Saber"—it's a great workout and tons of fun. "Superhot VR" is another must-try; it's like being in an action movie. If you're into exploring, "The Climb" offers breathtaking views and a bit of a workout too.

As for motion sickness, start with experiences where you're stationary, like seated games or apps. Gradually work your way up to more intense ones. Taking breaks often and ensuring your headset is adjusted properly can help too. Some folks find ginger candy or wristbands helpful for nausea. Enjoy diving into the VR world!
