Why does my dog stare at the corner of my room for minutes like it’s haunted?

Lately, my golden retriever has been fixating on this one corner of my living room for long stretches, sometimes just sitting and staring as if waiting for something. It’s not a new spot - there’s no obvious noise or light flickering there. I tried moving furniture around and even sprayed some pet-safe calming spray nearby, but nothing seems to distract him. He doesn’t growl or bark, just this intense, almost puzzled gaze. I’m curious if any of you have seen your pets do something like this? Is it possible he’s sensing something invisible to us, or could it be a sign of an underlying health issue? Should I be worried or just chalk it up to quirky dog behavior?

That sounds really intriguing! My dog used to do something similar, just zoning in on a spot like she was waiting for a ghost or something. In her case, it turned out she had a tiny ear infection that made her a bit off balance, so she’d stare off into space trying to figure out what was going on. It might be worth a quick vet check just to rule out any subtle health issues, especially if this is new behavior.

On the other hand, dogs can be super sensitive to sounds or smells we humans can’t detect. Maybe there’s a faint noise from pipes or critters behind the wall? If he’s calm and not showing signs of distress, it could just be one of those quirky things dogs do that keep us guessing.
