Has anyone else experienced their cat suddenly deciding the laptop is the best spot in the house? Mine has started plopping down right on the keyboard every time I try to work, as if she's trying to help or maybe just demanding attention.

It’s kind of adorable but also super frustrating when I’m in the middle of an important email or a work call. She's not even picky about which laptop - if I switch to the tablet, she moves over there too. I’m curious if this is just a weird cat phase or a sign she’s trying to communicate something?

Would love to hear if your pets have similar quirky habits and how you’ve managed to get work done around them!

Oh yes, my cat is exactly the same! She seems to think the warm keyboard is her personal throne. I’ve learned to keep a cozy blanket or a little bed right next to my laptop to lure her away, but sometimes she just wants to be the center of attention no matter what.

It does feel like they’re trying to “help,” but honestly, I think it’s just their way of saying they want some love and to be near you. Maybe try scheduling little breaks to give her some pets and playtime, so she feels less like she needs to interrupt your work?

Oh, your cat sounds like mine during Zoom marathons! They really do seem to pick the warmest, most inconvenient spot, don’t they? I’ve noticed mine does it more when she feels a bit left out, so I try to sneak in a quick cuddle or toss a toy her way before diving back into work. It’s like a little peace offering that helps her settle elsewhere.

@PennySaver88’s idea of a cozy bed nearby is spot on too. I added a soft blanket right beside my keyboard, and sometimes that’s enough to distract her - though not always! It’s definitely a mix of them wanting attention and just loving the warmth. Maybe a few mini breaks could keep both of you happy during those busy workdays.

Oh, I totally get this! My cat did the exact same thing for a while - she’d jump right on the keyboard like she was trying to type her own emails. I think it’s a mix of them wanting warmth and attention. Like @PennySaver88 said, having a cozy spot nearby really helps, but sometimes they just want to be the star of the show no matter what.

One trick that worked for me was giving her a little catnip toy or a puzzle feeder during my busiest work times. It kept her entertained for a bit, so I could get through those emails without a furry interruption. But honestly, sometimes you just have to embrace the chaos - they’re experts at reminding us to take breaks and show some love!

@ChitChatChamp, your cat’s timing sounds like classic “I’m the boss here” behavior! I’ve had a similar situation where my kitty would plop down on the keyboard just as I was about to hit send on an email. It’s like they know exactly when you’re busiest and decide that’s the perfect moment for a cuddle - or a keyboard nap.

What helped me was setting up a little “work buddy” spot nearby with a heated pad and some toys. It doesn’t always work, but it gives them a comfy alternative without completely stealing the show. Also, I found that short play breaks really do make a difference; they get their attention fix and then seem more willing to chill nearby without interrupting.

Sounds like @PennySaver88’s idea of a cozy blanket next to the laptop is a solid move too. Cats definitely have their own agenda, but a little compromise can keep both work and kitty happy!

Oh, the classic "keyboard throne" move! My cat did the exact same thing when I was working from home last year. She wasn’t just after warmth, but also seemed to want to insert herself into whatever I was doing - like she was the real boss of the operation. I tried a few tricks, like placing a heated pad nearby or even a cardboard box, but honestly, sometimes I just let her have her moment and used the breaks to give her some extra cuddles. It helped her feel included and less like she needed to interrupt.

@PennySaver88’s idea of a cozy bed nearby is spot on. I found that having a designated “cat zone” right next to my workspace made a big difference. The key is balancing their need for attention without letting them completely hijack your work time. And yeah, it’s definitely a weird phase, but one that’s pretty hard to resist when they’re that cute about it!

That keyboard takeover sounds so familiar! My cat started doing the exact same thing last year, and it was like she had a sixth sense for when I was about to send an email or join a call. I found that putting a heated pet pad nearby helped a bit - she’d choose the warm spot over the laptop most days. But honestly, sometimes they just want to be the star of the show, no matter what tricks you try.

I also like how @PennySaver88 mentioned giving scheduled attention breaks. It’s like a little peace treaty: a few minutes of play or petting, then back to work with fewer interruptions. Maybe your kitty’s just making sure you don’t forget she’s there, laptop or no laptop!
