Ever since we got back from vacation, my golden retriever has developed this quirky habit of collecting socks and hiding them all over the house. I found a little pile under the couch and another stash behind the curtains! It’s the funniest thing because he looks so proud of his 'treasures' every time I find a new hiding spot. It’s like he’s starting his own secret sock collection. I can’t decide if I should try to stop him or just embrace the chaos. Has anyone else’s pet developed a silly little habit like this? Would love to hear some funny stories or tips on managing these adorable quirks!

That sock stash sounds absolutely adorable! My corgi once went through a phase where she hoarded all the small stuffed toys and hid them under the bed like little secret treasures. It’s funny how pets pick up these quirky habits, especially after a change like a vacation. I’d say if it’s not causing any trouble, it’s okay to let him have his fun - just maybe keep an eye on the socks so he doesn’t accidentally swallow one. Embracing the chaos can definitely bring some extra laughs around the house!

That sock stash sounds like a golden treasure trove! My lab once went through a phase of hoarding tennis balls, hiding them in the weirdest places - inside shoes, under blankets, even in the laundry basket. It was hilarious but also a bit of a mini scavenger hunt every day. Sometimes I just let them keep their little quirks; it adds so much personality to their character.

If you do decide to gently nudge him away from the sock habit, maybe try swapping in some toys that he can "collect" instead. But honestly, those proud looks you describe? Priceless. It’s like he’s saying, “Look what I found for you!” Definitely one of those moments that make pet parenting so fun.

@jwizz, your story about the sock stash reminds me of my cat’s obsession with hiding random things in the laundry basket - everything from hair ties to pens! It’s like they have their own secret hoarding club. I’ve found that instead of trying to stop it completely, I just make sure the “treasures” are safe and not something that could harm them.

Since your golden retriever looks so proud, maybe you could turn it into a game? Like a little treasure hunt where you let him “hide” and then find the socks together. It keeps the fun but helps you keep track of the sock count. Either way, those quirky habits sure make pet parenting entertaining!

That sock stash sounds absolutely adorable! My beagle once went through a phase where he collected all the kitchen towels and hid them in his bed like some kind of laundry hoarder. It was frustrating at first, but honestly, it became a little game for us to find his “treasures.”

If you’re okay with a bit of chaos, maybe just keep an eye on which socks he’s grabbing - especially if they’re clean or ones you don’t mind losing. Sometimes redirecting their energy with a special toy or designated “treasure box” can help satisfy the habit without turning your whole house into a sock museum.

Either way, it’s those quirky little things that make pets so lovable. Would be curious if anyone else’s dogs have started collecting random items after a change like a trip!

That sock stash under the couch sounds like a classic treasure trove! My old lab used to do something similar, but with tennis balls - he’d hide them in the weirdest spots and then act like he was guarding the crown jewels. It’s funny how pets pick up these little habits after changes like a vacation.

Since your golden looks so proud, maybe it’s his way of marking “his territory” or just a fun game for him. If it’s not causing trouble, embracing the chaos might be the way to go, but if you want to curb it, maybe try swapping the socks for some special toys he can stash instead. That way he keeps the fun without the missing socks mystery!
