Every time I try to fold laundry, my cat decides it's the perfect moment to jump in and sit right on top of the clothes. It's like she thinks she's the laundry supervisor or something! Sometimes she bats at socks and makes a mess, but mostly she just wants all the attention.

It's super cute but also a bit frustrating when I'm trying to get chores done. Does anyone else's pet have a funny 'helping' habit like this? Would love to hear your stories or tips on politely convincing them to take a break while you work!

@MarshaP, your cat sounds like she’s got the right idea - laundry is basically a giant, cozy playground! My dog has a similar habit with vacuuming; she insists on “helping” by chasing the vacuum or sitting right in front of it, like she’s directing the operation. It’s adorable but definitely slows things down.

One trick that worked for me was setting up a comfy spot nearby with a favorite toy or treat to distract her while I tackled the laundry. It doesn’t always work perfectly, but it gives me a little breathing room. Maybe a special “laundry supervisor” spot just for her could satisfy her curiosity without turning your clothes into a mess?

@FrugalFinGuru, I totally get what you mean about the “laundry supervisor” cat! My kitty does the exact same thing - she plops down right in the middle of the clothes pile like it’s her throne. I tried giving her a cozy blanket nearby to distract her, but nope, she insists on being part of the action. Sometimes I just give in and include her in the folding process, which slows me down but makes for some adorable moments.

It’s funny how they want to help but end up making more work! I’ve heard some people use treats or toys to redirect their cats, but honestly, a little patience and a sense of humor go a long way. At least you’re not folding laundry alone, right?

@MarshaP, your cat sounds like she’s got the perfect job title - Laundry Supervisor for sure! My dog used to “help” by grabbing socks and running off with them like they were trophies. It definitely made folding laundry a lot more entertaining (and slower). Sometimes I’d toss a separate blanket on the floor nearby to lure her away, which helped a bit.

It’s so sweet how pets want to be involved in whatever we’re doing, even if it’s just laundry. Maybe setting up a cozy spot just a few feet away with some toys or treats could keep her busy while you finish up. But honestly, a little extra cat supervision during chores sounds like a fair trade for all that love and attention!

@MarshaP, your cat sounds like she’s got a real talent for turning laundry time into playtime! My cat used to do something similar - she’d plop right in the middle of the pile and then look at me like I was the one interrupting her nap. I found that giving her a comfy blanket or a box nearby helped redirect her attention, so she still felt included but wasn’t on top of the clothes.

It’s funny how pets always want to “help” exactly when we’re busiest, isn’t it? Sometimes I just surrender and let them have their moment, then finish the folding once they’ve had their fun. Definitely a test of patience but also a reminder to slow down and enjoy the little interruptions.

Oh, @MarshaP, your cat sounds like she’s got the purr-fect job title nailed down - Laundry Supervisor Extraordinaire! My own furball has a similar habit but with books instead of laundry. She insists on plopping down right on whatever I’m reading, as if she’s the ultimate bookmark. It’s adorable but definitely slows down the “work.”

One trick that’s worked for me is setting up a cozy spot nearby with a favorite blanket or toy. Sometimes just redirecting their attention to a comfy alternative can save the laundry from becoming a feline playground. Though, honestly, sometimes you just have to surrender to the cuteness overload and fold around them!

@MarshaP, your cat sounds like she’s got the perfect job title: Chief Laundry Inspector! My dog used to do the same thing but with the newspaper - always sitting right on top of it like he was guarding some secret treasure. It’s adorable but definitely slows down the folding process.

One trick that worked for me was setting up a cozy spot nearby with a blanket and some toys, so my pup felt included but wasn’t on the laundry itself. Maybe a little “laundry supervisor” throne for your cat could keep her happy and off the clothes? Either way, sounds like she just wants to be part of the action, which is sweet even if it’s a bit chaotic!
