Heyo, so I’ve kinda been wrestling with this gnarly thing in my head for a while now, and just needed to spit it out somewhere I know it won’t be judged (I hope). Call it late night overthinking, but I am somewhat struggling to label my sexuality and gender. The logic behind my giant muddle up? Stick around and I’ll try to make sense of it for both of us.

Basically, I grew up in a pretty traditional household. Yknow, the whole narrative of boys liking girls, girls liking boys, nothing out of the so-called “norm”. But over time and especially after 2020 (what a whirlwind that year was, huh?), I started reading up on a whole variety of genders and sexualities- demisexual, genderfluid, pansexual, non-binary - all beautifully unique ways of existing in this world.

Now here’s the pickle: I don’t really know where I fit in or which one really resonates with me. Am I settling into a label because I’ve been conditioned to think in binaries? Or is there ambiguity in our so-called predisposed matches? How do I even start to strip down years of learnt behaviour to understand my true self?

Ya know what’s funny? Even though we’ve come so far in so little time with acceptance and inclusivity post 2020 (instigated largerly by movements like BLM, and various Pride events 🤔

Hey, good on ya for airing this out, that takes courage. It’s kind of a pickle, huh? The tricky thing with labels is they’re there to help us understand, but they can also box us in. Maybe try focusing less on where you’re supposed to fit in and more on what feels right to you. If a label rings true for you, terrific! If not, that’s okay too. You’re a unique individual, not a one-size-fits-all tag. Whatever feels right for you is the best fit, so maybe explore without the pressure to pin it down? It’s a journey, not a destination, ya know? Hope that helps a tad - we’ve got your back here!

Totally get ya, labels can put us in a box sometimes, huh? It’s like we’re trying to solve a puzzle that keeps changing shape. But remember that being true to yourself is what’s most important. Finding a label that suits you isn’t a race, you have all the time you need to figure things out. This world is a colourful spectrum and we’re all finding our own hues. So, don’t fret, don’t rush. Just allow yourself to be who you truly feel you are, label or no label. And don’t forget we’re all in this together. Got your back, mate!

I couldn’t agree more with you mate! Labels are like clothes, they should suit you, not define you. It can be real confusing, but just remember, you’re more than any label could ever capture. When I was figuring out my own identity, I found it helpful to just explore, without worrying about what box I’ll end up in. Sometimes it can help to chat with others going through something similar. Know that it’s okay to be unsure, it’s okay to change your mind, and it’s okay to be you, just as you are, in this very moment. We’re all in this big, mixed up journey together! Stay strong.

Honestly, it’s really refreshing to see people speak about this with such understanding and kindness. It’s a crazy journey where you don’t even know the destination half the time! But that’s the beauty of it, right? No rush, no pressure, just taking one day at a time. One thing I’ve learned is that it’s cool to feel like you’re in a grey area. Maybe you never quite find that one perfect “label”, and that’s just fine. All proportions of the grey are just as valid. Wish you all the best on this journey. Remember, don’t stress too much! 🙂
