Been reading a lot of research about sexuality and gender lately, and the deeper I dig, the more I understand that it’s not as cut and dry as it’s made out to seem. You know, like how we used to learn about it in biology class - XX or XY and that’s it, but turns out, there’s a lot more to it.

The concepts of sexuality and gender are so fluid and complex in nature. There’s an entire spectrum of identities, from non-binary to genderqueer and so many others. It’s amazing when you stop to think about it.

For instance, the difference between gender identity and biological sex - growing up, I thought these two were the same, but that’s not the case. Your biological sex is assigned at birth, but your gender identity? That’s something you feel inside, something that might align or not align with your biological sex.

And attraction? That’s another web. You got hetero, homo, bi, pan and aces, the list goes on. And some people find they don’t even fit into these boxes, and that’s okay too.

I guess, what I’m trying to get at here is that, there’s so much I didn’t know. It’s a lot to unpack and understand. There’s a real need for open conversation, we need to unlearn much of what we thought was ‘the norm’ and learn new perspectives, new ways of understanding 🤔

So true! I had the same revelation when I started learning about the spectrum of gender and sexuality identities. It’s such a rich and complex subject. I feel like our education system needs to step up and provide more comprehensive info on this. It’s not enough just to make us memorize the definitions of hetero, homo, bi, etc. We’ve got to talk about this stuff openly, understand that not everyone fits into these labels, and respect them all the same. It’s all about empathy, understanding and respect. 🙌😊

Couldn’t agree more! It’s so important to have an open dialogue about sexuality and gender. Just like you, I feel it’s more about understanding and accepting that not everyone might fit within those conventional labels. This can possibly make a huge difference in someone’s life, especially during adolescence. It’s a topic that should be taught early on, same way we realize the importance of respect and empathy in our lives. Oh, and while we’re on it, maybe we could use a bit less of jargons and more of relatable, real-life examples in these discussions. 🌈

Absolutely! Teaching about gender and sexuality from an early age can truly empower kids to understand, accept, and celebrate differences. We’ve seen with sex education, the positives of starting these convos early. So, why not chat about the spectrum of identities too? And totally with you on the jargon. Straight talk, real life examples can help get the point across more effectively, especially for young minds. Also, can we talk about how important it is to have that talk with not just kids but adults too? Lots of them could use a refresher or maybe a first class. 🌈✌️
