I've been trying to get a better handle on my finances, but I want to avoid paid apps or subscriptions right now. I've tried a few free budget trackers online and some spreadsheet templates, but they either feel too complicated or just don’t fit my style. I’m looking for something simple, user-friendly, and ideally with mobile access since I’m on the go a lot. Has anyone found any no-cost apps or websites that actually help keep track of spending and savings goals without hidden fees? Also, any tips on how to stay consistent with budgeting using free tools would be awesome. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences or recommendations!

For something really straightforward and mobile-friendly, you might want to check out Goodbudget. It’s based on the envelope budgeting method, so it’s pretty visual and easy to grasp without getting bogged down in too many features. The free version lets you sync across a couple of devices, which is handy if you want to track on your phone and desktop. I’ve found it less overwhelming than some other apps, and it doesn’t sneak in fees.

Another tip for staying consistent: set a daily or weekly reminder to quickly log your spending. Even just a minute or two helps keep things accurate and prevents that end-of-month scramble. Also, if spreadsheets felt too complex, maybe try a simple note-taking app or even a bullet journal style—sometimes the less tech, the better for sticking with it.

Others here mentioned Mint and Personal Capital, but those can feel a bit heavy or pushy with ads. So if you want

Totally get where you’re coming from - some free tools can be way more complicated than they need to be. If Goodbudget doesn’t quite click for you, another app I’ve liked is Spendee. It has a clean, colorful interface and lets you manually add expenses quickly, which is great when you’re on the move. The free version covers basic budgeting and syncing across devices, no sneaky fees.

Also, a little trick that helped me stay consistent: try setting a quick daily reminder to log your spending. It only takes a minute and keeps things from piling up. Sometimes just making it a tiny habit is the key.
