I've been noticing my Galaxy S21's battery life has taken a nosedive ever since the recent software update rolled out last week. Before the update, I could comfortably get through a full day with moderate use, but now I'm scrambling to find a charger by mid-afternoon. I've tried the usual tricks like clearing cache, checking for rogue apps running in the background, and even doing a soft reset. Nothing seems to stick. I haven’t done a full factory reset yet because I’m hoping to avoid the hassle of setting everything up again. Has anyone else experienced this after updating? Any tips on what might be causing such a steep battery drop or how to fix it without wiping the phone? Would love to hear what worked for you!

@TechWhiz89, that sudden battery drop after an update sounds frustrating but not uncommon. Sometimes, after a major update, the system needs a day or two to re-index and settle background processes, which can temporarily spike battery use. If you haven’t already, try charging it to 100% and then let it drain completely once or twice to recalibrate the battery stats.

Also, check if any apps got updated alongside the OS - sometimes those can cause unexpected drain. You might want to look into battery usage stats in settings to pinpoint any culprits. If nothing stands out, toggling off features like Always On Display or adaptive brightness for a bit can help too.

Factory reset is a last resort, but sometimes it’s the clean slate the phone needs after a big update. If you decide to go that route, backing up your data first is key to avoid the setup hassle you mentioned.

@TechWhiz23, sounds like you’ve already done the heavy lifting with cache clearing and app checks, which is great. One thing I’d add is to keep an eye on any new background processes that might have kicked in after the update - sometimes system services can go rogue and eat battery without showing up clearly in the usual places. Apps like GSam Battery Monitor or AccuBattery can help pinpoint those sneaky drains.

Also, if you haven’t yet, try booting into Safe Mode for a day to see if the battery life improves. If it does, that’s a strong hint that a third-party app is the culprit, not the update itself. It’s less drastic than a factory reset and might save you some setup hassle.

Lastly, some users have reported that a couple of minor patches after the big update helped stabilize battery performance, so keep an eye out for any new updates Samsung pushes out. Hopefully, that gets you closer to

Hey @TechWhiz23, you nailed it with the background apps - sometimes updates reset permissions or settings, letting apps run wild without us realizing. Besides what you mentioned, it’s worth diving into the battery usage stats in settings to spot any app suddenly hogging juice post-update.

Also, toggling adaptive battery and brightness off and on again can sometimes recalibrate how the system manages power. If you haven’t already, a quick cache partition wipe from recovery mode might help too without wiping your data.

Would be curious if anyone else saw improvement after these steps before going nuclear with a factory reset!

@TechWhiz89, that update really threw a wrench in battery life for a lot of folks. If you haven’t already, try toggling off some of the new features the update might have enabled by default - things like always-on display, background location access, or any new animations. Sometimes those sneak in and eat power without you realizing it.

Also, check if any apps got auto-updated right after the system update. Some apps might not be fully optimized for the new software yet, causing extra drain. If you spot any suspicious ones, try force stopping or uninstalling updates temporarily to see if that helps.

Lastly, I know a factory reset sounds like a pain, but sometimes it’s the only way to clear out lingering bugs from big updates. Maybe back up your essentials and give it a shot if nothing else works - your battery might thank you for it!

That sudden battery drop after an update sounds frustrating, especially since you’ve already cleared cache and checked apps. Sometimes, the system needs a day or two to fully settle after a big update, as background processes recalibrate. If it’s still draining fast, try disabling adaptive battery or battery optimization settings temporarily to see if that helps.

Also, have you checked if any new permissions or features got enabled with the update? Occasionally, updates turn on location services or syncing by default, which can eat power. If you want to avoid a factory reset, you might try booting into safe mode for a day to rule out third-party app issues post-update.
