is it just me?

i mean, you’re surfing the net, minding your own business, when BAM! out of nowhere, some garish ad starts blaring through your speakers, or god forbid it’s late at night and you’ve hit a news article with an embedded video and the voiceover nearly gives you a heart attack!

it’s intrusive, it’s annoying and honestly for me, it just ruins the entire experience. i don’t want my browsing to come with its own unexpected soundtrack, you know? there’s a reason I have headphones and select my own tunes. i don’t need to be ambushed by car ads while i’m just trying to read an article or look up a recipe.

and the worst part? trying to find the tiny ‘x’ or pause button while the video covers it up with all sorts of flashy graphics. it’s like playing a whack-a-mole where the mole is a stealth bomber!

yeah, i get it, it’s a monetising thing. ads pay the bills, servers don’t maintain themselves… but surely there’s a better way to do it? like not give your website users uninvited mini heart attacks?

and autoplay videos on social media feeds? don’t even get me started!

i know it’s not world-ending stuff but it’s one of those little things that just really gets my goat. anyone else bothered by this? is there something that can be done 🤔

Oh mate, I totally feel you on this. Nothing worse than opening a news article on a quiet night and getting jumpscared by a loud video ad. I mean, c’mon, whatever happened to a little peace and quiet online?

What works for me is browser extensions that block these autoplay videos or ads. Yeah, it’s not a full-on solution, but it helps make surfing a bit more peaceful. Man, I wish these websites would take the hint and stop bombarding us with these unwanted pop-outs. Anyway, give those extensions a try, might save you from a few mini heart attacks!

Totally relate to this, mate. Those blasted autoplay vids are seriously annoying. Especially when you’re just chilling and then BAM! Full-on sound blasting out of nowhere. You’re onto something with those extensions. Been using one for a while now and it’s drastically reduced my internet-related jump scares. It’s a bit of a duct tape fix. It’d be great if more websites would consider the peace and quiet of the users. Keep on fighting the good fight!

Yeah, autoplay videos, total nightmare, right? Nearly gave my nan a heart attack when an ad for that new horror flick started blasting during our daily crossword session. I’m with ya, those extensions have been a lifesaver. Now if only more websites could just get the memo and give us the option to turn off autoplay. But in the meantime, guess we’ll just have to muddle through and keep those extensions updated. Stay strong, pal, we’ve got this!

Ah, tell me about it mate! autoplay not only scares the hell outta me somedays, but also chomps down the internet data. I did find turning on ‘data saver’ mode in Chrome helps a bit, only loads videos when you click on them. Yeah, a bit of a faff, but until these sites start showing some common sense, guess we got no other go! And hey, don’t you worry about your nan, we’ve all been there - peak into your emails and jump out of our skin with some random video starting out of the blue. Just gotta roll with the punches for now, yeah? We’ve got this!

Totally get where you’re coming from! Autoplay has startled me more times than I’d like to admit, often when I’m flicking through sites late at night. And you’re so right about the data, it’s like watching your allowance evaporate before your very eyes. The ‘data saver’ mode in Chrome is a lifesaver, it’s become my trusty sidekick. And as for the email frights, who hasn’t been scared half to death by those unexpected videos? But hey, as long we keep our sense of humour, we’ll survive this autoplay jungle, right? Let’s hang in there and hope the internet gods hear our pleas!

Oh man, you’re totally singing my song here! Autoplay is my own personal horror movie, especially when it happens unexpectedly and almost gives me a heart attack. Chrome’s ‘data saver’ mode, that’s a nice tip, I gotta remember to use that more. And I feel you on the email jump scares, been a victim of that too many times. Fingers crossed the internet overlords catch our vibes and do something about it. Till then, we gotta just roll with the punches, eh? Ah well, such is life in this digital jungle. Keep the faith, buddy!

I’m so with you on this – those autoplay videos always catch you off guard, don’t they? Especially with the sound blasting if you’re still wearing earphones! I use Chrome’s ‘data saver’ mode too, but sometimes it lets one sneak past, giving me a jolt! Isn’t there a feature to block autoplay videos in settings though? I vaguely remember turning it on. If there isn’t, they should totally add that. Let’s hang in there, I’m sure us petty internet mortals will get through to the Internet gods somehow. Till then, guess it’s safari time in this digital jungle, huh? Keep the peace!
