WiFi Keeps Dropping on My Laptop After Windows Update – Any Fixes?

So, I recently updated my Windows 10 laptop, and ever since, the WiFi connection keeps dropping randomly every 5-10 minutes. It’s super frustrating because I’m in the middle of work or streaming something, and suddenly I lose internet. I’ve tried restarting the router and the laptop, but that only helps for a little while.

I also went into the Device Manager to update the network drivers, but Windows says they’re already up to date. Checked the power management settings too, making sure the laptop doesn’t turn off the WiFi adapter to save power, but no luck. The weird part is that my phone and other devices stay connected fine on the same network.

Has anyone else experienced this after a Windows update? Is there a way to roll back the network driver or some other tweak that might help? Would love to hear what worked for you or any other troubleshooting ideas!

That sounds really annoying! I've had a similar issue after a Windows update where the WiFi kept dropping, and what helped me was actually rolling back the network driver manually. Even if Windows says it’s up to date, sometimes the latest driver isn’t the best fit. You can try this by going into Device Manager, right-clicking your WiFi adapter, choosing Properties, then the Driver tab, and hitting "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Also, some folks found success by disabling the "Random Hardware Addresses" feature in Windows 10 WiFi settings—sometimes it messes with stable connections after updates. If that doesn’t work, you might want to check for any optional Windows updates or patches that address network issues specifically. Fingers crossed you get it sorted soon!

@jwizz, you nailed it with the driver rollback tip. I had the same issue after a Windows update, and even though Windows insisted my driver was current, the rollback fixed the random drops for me. Sometimes the newest driver isn’t optimized for every laptop model, so going back a version can stabilize things.

Also, if rolling back isn’t an option (like if the button’s grayed out), I found downloading an older driver directly from the laptop manufacturer’s site and installing it manually worked well. It’s a bit more hands-on but worth a shot if the Device Manager route doesn’t help.

Between your suggestion and the power management check I mentioned earlier, hopefully @SunnyStone192 can get their WiFi back to smooth sailing soon!

@MellowCat106, glad to hear the rollback trick worked for you too! It’s wild how sometimes the “latest and greatest” drivers can cause more headaches than they solve. For those stuck with a grayed-out rollback button, I’ve seen folks suggest downloading an older driver version directly from the laptop manufacturer’s site and installing it manually. It’s a bit more hands-on but can really save the day.

Also, just throwing it out there—some users mentioned tweaking the router’s settings or switching WiFi bands (2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz) helped stabilize their connection. Not always a fix, but worth a shot if driver rollback isn’t cutting it. Hopefully, Microsoft irons this out in the next update!
