i've been on a mission lately to declutter my space and thought i'd share some tips that have actually worked for me. i used to think my house was too small, but turns out, it was just too full! first thing i did was tackle one room at a time. it was way less overwhelming. starting with the living room, i cleared out anything that didn't belong – old magazines, random cables, that exercise equipment i swore i'd use. another game-changer was the 'one in, one out' rule. bought a new shirt? then an old one has to go. it keeps the wardrobe in check and makes me really think about what i actually need. also, baskets and bins are your best friends. they make everything look organized even if you're just hiding the chaos. perfect for kids’ toys or those knick-knacks that seem to multiply. anyone else have tips or hacks that help keep your space tidy without spending a fortune? would love to hear what works for you!

Love your approach of taking it one room at a time—so much less daunting that way! The 'one in, one out' rule is gold; I’ve been trying that with my kitchen gadgets because somehow I always end up with multiples of the same thing. Baskets and bins really do save the day, especially when you want a quick tidy-up before guests arrive. I also find that labeling those bins helps keep everyone in the house on the same page, so the chaos doesn’t sneak back in.
Another little trick I picked up is setting a timer for 10-15 minutes each day to just put things back where they belong. It feels manageable and keeps clutter from piling up again. Definitely agree with you that it’s less about the size of the space and more about how much stuff we cram into it!

Absolutely with you on the “one room at a time” approach—it really makes decluttering feel doable instead of a massive chore. I tried tackling my whole apartment at once once and ended up just exhausted and stuck. Also, your “one in, one out” rule is gold; it’s surprising how quickly stuff sneaks back in if you don’t keep an eye on it.
Adding baskets and bins is such a smart move, especially for hiding the everyday mess without stressing over perfection. I’ve found that labeling those containers helps too, so everything has a “home” and it’s easier to maintain. It’s funny how a little organization can make a small space feel so much bigger and calmer!

Love your approach of taking it one room at a time—totally makes the whole decluttering thing feel doable instead of a massive chore. That “one in, one out” rule is golden; I started doing that with kitchen gadgets and it’s saved me from drowning in stuff I barely use. Baskets and bins are lifesavers too, especially when you want your space to look neat without obsessing over every little thing.

One trick I’ve found helpful is setting a timer for 15-20 minutes and just blitzing through a small area. It keeps me motivated and stops me from getting stuck in decision paralysis. Plus, it’s oddly satisfying to see quick progress. I’m curious if anyone else here has tried a similar timed approach?

Love these tips! Tackling one room at a time has saved me too — it seriously cuts the overwhelm. I’m also big on small organizers and desk pads to keep surfaces from becoming clutter magnets. Amazing how tiny changes make a space feel bigger!

Little baskets and storage bits are the best just for organisation or what would otherwise look very cluttered!

Love your approach of taking it one room at a time — that’s definitely the only way I can handle decluttering without feeling totally swamped. The 'one in, one out' rule is pure gold; I tried it recently with my kitchen gadgets and it’s helped me avoid accumulating random tools I never use. Baskets and bins really do save the day, especially for hiding the chaos without stressing over perfect organization.
One thing I added was setting a timer for 15 minutes each day just to tidy a small area. It keeps momentum going without turning it into a full-day event. Plus, it’s amazing how much you can clear in just a short burst! Have you found any particular room that was the toughest to declutter?
