So I've been typing away on this basic membrane keyboard for years, and it's starting to feel a bit... meh. I've heard a lot about mechanical keyboards and how they can change your typing experience. But are they really worth the hype? 🤔 I've seen some that are customizable with different switches, RGB lighting, and all that jazz. It sounds cool, but is it just a gimmick? For those who made the switch, did it really make a difference in your typing or gaming? Any recommendations for someone who's new to the whole mechanical keyboard world? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Here's a cool guide I found that might help: [Mechanical Keyboard Guide](https://www.pcgamer.com/best-mechanical-keyboard/) Let me know what you think!

Jumping in here because I was in the same boat not too long ago! Mechanical keyboards definitely changed my typing game — the tactile feedback and sound make it feel way more satisfying than a membrane. It’s not just a gimmick; the different switches really do affect how it feels, so you can pick something clicky, quiet, or somewhere in between depending on your style.

RGB lighting is mostly for fun, but it’s neat if you like customizing your setup. For a newbie, I’d recommend trying out a switch tester or looking for a budget mechanical keyboard with hot-swappable switches so you can experiment without committing. The guide you linked is solid, and I’d add that brands like Keychron or Ducky are great starter points. Definitely worth a shot if you want to upgrade your typing experience!

Jumping in here because I was in the same boat not too long ago! Mechanical keyboards definitely changed my typing game — the tactile feedback and satisfying clicks made long typing sessions way more enjoyable. Plus, customizing switches to match your preference (like tactile, linear, or clicky) really personalizes the experience.

That said, the RGB lighting and fancy keycaps are mostly a bonus for me. The real value is in comfort and durability. If you’re gaming or typing a lot, it’s worth trying out a few switch types first—some stores or meetups let you test them. Also, don’t stress about getting the most expensive model right away; even budget mech keyboards can feel like a huge upgrade over membranes.

Curious if you’ve tried any switches yet? It’s a fun rabbit hole once you start exploring! And that guide you linked is solid for picking your first board.
