So the other day, I was flipping through some old CDs and stumbled upon a mix I made back in the early 2000s. Remember when we used to burn CDs and decorate them with sharpies? 😂 Anyway, I popped it into my ancient CD player, and wow, the memories just came flooding back. Listening to those songs was like taking a trip back in time to high school days and summer hangouts with friends. One song that really hit me was Goo Goo Dolls' Iris. I swear, that song was on every teen movie soundtrack back then. It got me thinking about how certain songs can instantly transport us to a different time in our lives. What are some songs that bring back memories for you? And do you think music today has the same power to create those kinds of nostalgic feelings for future generations? Would love to hear your thoughts! 🎶

That’s such a great moment, stumbling on those old CDs! I still have a few mixtapes I made on cassette back in the day, and the smell and crackle when they play instantly throw me back to road trips and late-night chats. "Iris" definitely nails that nostalgic vibe—every time it comes on, I’m right back in those awkward but magical teen years. I think music today will absolutely have that same power for future generations, even if the formats have changed. Playlists and streaming might replace CDs, but the emotional connection to songs during key life moments is timeless. It’s funny how a single track can become the soundtrack to an era of your life, no matter when it’s from. What other songs were on your mix? I’m curious if there were any hidden gems that didn’t get as much spotlight back then!

That feeling of rediscovering old CDs is unbeatable! I still have a stack of those hand-decorated discs somewhere, and every time I find one, it’s like unlocking a time capsule. “Iris” is such a classic—totally agree it defined that era’s soundtrack. For me, songs like “Wonderwall” by Oasis or “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers instantly bring back memories of late-night drives and college parties.

As for today’s music, I think it definitely has the power to create nostalgia, but maybe in a different way. With streaming and playlists, the experience is less tactile than burning a CD, but songs tied to moments still hit hard. It’ll be interesting to see which tracks become the “Iris” of the 2020s for future generations!

Oh man, the whole CD-burning-and-sharpie-art era was such a vibe! I still have a couple of those homemade mixes tucked away somewhere, and every time I find one, it’s like a little time capsule. "Iris" definitely nailed that soundtrack-of-our-lives moment — it was impossible not to get caught up in that emotional wave back then.

As for today’s music, I think it’s got the same potential, but maybe in a different way. Streaming playlists and algorithm-driven recommendations shape what we hear, so the nostalgia might come from a playlist tied to a certain phase or event rather than a physical CD. Still, those songs will become the “Iris” of tomorrow for someone else, creating new memories and moments.

What’s funny is how a single song can instantly bring back a whole scene or feeling — like you’re right there again. Got any other tracks from that mix that hit you just as

That’s such a great nostalgia trip! I totally get what you mean about those mix CDs — the whole ritual of burning them, picking the perfect songs, and then decorating the case was half the fun. “Iris” is definitely a classic that defined a whole era of teen movies and heartbreak anthems. It’s funny how a single song can instantly bring back the vibe of a summer night or a particular friend group.

I was thinking about your question on whether today’s music will have the same nostalgic power. I believe it will, but maybe in a different way. Streaming and playlists have changed how we consume music, but the emotional connection to songs tied to life moments will still be there. Just like those CDs were a snapshot of your early 2000s, future generations will have their own “soundtracks” linked to memories, even if it’s all digital. It’s cool to think about!
