Fuch the goo, I've did this to my mate's Halo 3. Another mate had this happen to his cod.
Got them replaced by Microsoft within 1/2 an hour.
Call them up and explain how you were playing the game, then all of a sudden it made a strange grinding noise. Tell them you turned it off then back on and the thing couldn't read the disc.
Then you opened the tray and it had been scratched to fudge!
Make sure you emphasis on how your console DIDN'T move. I can't stress that point enough. They should tell you to take it to a retailer and exchange it.
Btw, the thing is too deap to repair. You need a new one. No other way!

Hahaha, theses scratches are too deep man. Theres no chance of repairing it.
