Philosophical Debates Section
#1
Who else would like to see a section like this added to the off-topic category? Some of the most interesting and addictive discussions surround this topic. Think there's any chance of this happening, Omniscient? I know DAMINK would appreciate the section! ;)

It sounds like a good idea to me, I would really like it personally.

I'm not sure what the chances of it happening, but we can always hope.

Debate to be honest goes against the concept of this forum of having support and harmony amongst members.

I don't really think people are going to be turned off by the small frequency of tension between members bound to occur in such a forum. I think the fact that this topic is so interesting and controversial, it will definitely make for some more activity and discussion on the site, hopefully outweighing your statement.

Along with what Omni said, unfortunately we lack a good amount of members who can hold a proper debate.

I don't think that's true. I know the quality of members here at SF (when compared to, er, certain other sites) is very high. I have no doubt that we could consistently have high quality discussions should a section be implemented.

I've run a political debate site. This was my site before I sold it a few years ago.

I know for a fact how quick debates can get heated and feelings hurt. I don't want that here. Besides that I plan to open my own new political forum in the next few weeks. I'll point SF and HF to it for debates. Hoping to get it heated there and people active.

Sounds really interesting. Can I ask you to perhaps aim it more towards philosophy and science vs religion reather than politics? That way, users outside of the US can actively participate.

I've been a member of a few political debate sites through ChannelFuse and I haven't enjoyed any of them, simply because I had no idea what was going on in other countrys' political systems. And no one seemed to know or care about what was happening in Australia either.

Philosophy, religion, science, theories, all that crap is really really interesting stuff. Think you could do something like that? Victoire

It's going to be a well rounded debate site including all those topics.

Sorry King but i have to agree here.
It goes against the fabric of SF.
Dont get me wrong i love to debate but often debate can lead to flaming or just animosity between members.
This will ultimately spill out into the rest of the forums and for that i think its detrimental to SF.
Imagine how bad me and Omni would be going at it in the debate section lolz.
