How do y'all KNOW he's going to have compatability issues? I assume he was talking about his hardware. If so, then it depends entirely on his sound card, wireless card, and so on as to whether or not he'll have compatability issues.
1. No, unless you run it in a virtual environment, which would be pointless as OpenOffice is essentially the same thing, and is free.
2. In most cases, yes.
3. It depends. If you're a gamer, stick with Windows. I'm not a particularly hardcore gamer, but I was never able to get used to Linux.
4. It depends. There're many distros (short for 'distrobutions'), but good ones for beginners are Ubuntu or Mint. Mint is basically a better version of Ubuntu.
