You mean Final Cut Pro?

There's no doubt about it... Final Cut Pro is by far the better program, on every single level. It's just a shame that they haven't released a version compatible with Windows.

Hm, I've been using SVP 10 and It's pretty good but I guess time to see FCP. :O

It's better than Sony Vegas.. Probably the best video editing software out there.
After Effects is better for compositing, but for editing, Final Cut is definitely the top dog.

If you need any help with Adobe After Effects, just ask me for any help and advice. Fragma knows Final Cut better than I do i'm sure. I work in Adobe AE all the time though. Sony Vegas is a beginner program, even though can do a decent amount of basic edits with it.

Actually there's a hell of a lot of professionals that use Sony Vegas rather than Final Cut, mainly because it's incredibly simple to use, meaning you can do simple editing a lot quicker than you can in Final Cut. They're quite similar pieces of software, and although I would say Final Cut Pro is a lot better than Sony Vegas, it is just my personal preference. Some of FCP's features are slightly more advanced.

I think a better answer to this thread would be, it depends what you want to do...

If you're wanting to do quick stuff like for example making gaming montages for Youtube, then Sony Vegas is a good choice. Why? Because it's easier to learn that Final Cut, meaning you don't need any experience at all to do some cool stuff. (Which is why many see it as a beginners program).

If you're wanting to do more advanced stuff, for example editing films or animations, then Final Cut Pro will suit you a lot better.

To sum up, they're pretty similar bit's of software, but Final Cut is just that little bit more advanced, which is why you pay more money for it. Also if you're looking for a future career in video editing, you're more likely to get the job over somebody else who uses Sony Vegas.
Although if you know how to use both, along with After Effects, like I do, then you're on your way to making a lot of money in the future. Big Grin

I use AE for everything, because I know lots about it, I just haven't worked with every single plugin before lol. Most of the features I have though. Getting into Maya, but that's taking some time.

I really don't recommend using AE for your standard video editing stuff. It's a bloody nightmare in comparison to software like FCP & SV. I know you're probably used to it, but you'll find that you'll save a hell of a lot of time if you just learn FCP or SV.
I love using AE for compositing though. I pretty much use it for all my compositing needs these days. It's so incredibly powerful. Really is a fantastic piece of software.

Maya is great, I would love to learn it, but unfortunately, on my current degree course we're taught Cinema 4D. Which although is also a fantastic program, it isn't quite as advanced as Maya. Perhaps once my course is finished, I'll jump into learning Maya. Also there are more job opportunities out there if you know how to use Maya, which is what I'm really looking for most these days. Hence one of the reasons I started to learn Real Flow, because there is just so much money involved if you know how to use specialist software like that.
