I like the idea of an application store. I have read that there were talks of such an implementation in Windows 8.

They named windows 7 because vista was released in 2007 and it was a fail, So windows 7 was ment to reclaim for that rush. There is no operating system that failed in 2008, So unlikely there will be a windows 8.
