For your first example, the sun would actually be on the left hand side, as there are shadows to the right of the objects in the background.
Other than that its pretty good.

Whoops, looks like i got the background of the example messed up, i tried to make it clear that Bob (the stick-man) had shaddows to his left which means the sun had to be from the right, that was basically explaining how light is needed anyway, sorry :$
