If you are reffering to the android os phones yes there good phones which had just gotten a little better of the 2.1 update. If you are reffering to the Moto Droid from verizon yes its a great phone.

No exactly, the actual Android operating system is entirely written in Java and is not really Linux. On your phone though, this Java OS runs in a Dalvik virtual machine on top of a Linux kernel, and thats what makes it "Linux".
