Ubuntu is one of the most bloated Linux's out there. If you're looking for light, Arch Linux or Gentoo.
At the top will be the same place you hang from.

Anyway he did not want this for his own private server rather a hosted server if my understanding of his OP is correct.
Now IMHO there is little to no difference between the flavors they offer you.
Its a server! You will only cpanel into it if its a shared one or if its VPS or dedi you will be able to shell into it.
Will you know the difference if your in cpanel or even using shell? Nope.
Will it effect what packages you can install? Perhaps but its a server!. Your not going to want to put crap on it like you would a desktop.
Apache, PHP, SQL, Perl etc etc. Thats what you are going to be maintaining and running from it.
And which ever distro you get it will already have this installed. Even if its a VPS or dedi.
Thats my opinion on the matter anyway.

There are some more secure distros. Like i've been told that OpenBsd Is more security based then FreeBSD. Again no difference.
