Ubuntu 9.04. It's stable and easy to use.
Get it NOAW. I actually can't wait for Iron Man 2.

Ubuntu is great. I like to install an OS and use it, not mess around with ndiswrapper trying to figure out how to set up drivers for my wireless card.
If I'm going to use Ubuntu, I'm probably going to wait for 9.10, unless I can upgrade to it with 9.04. Can I? Or do I have to reinstall with Ubuntu 9.10

Ubuntu would also be my choice but Mint is also very good.

Just for browsing? I would say Ubuntu. If your needs ever change, you can also use the Synatipic package manager to upgrade to a different derivatives. Such as Kubuntu or Xbuntu.

Mint is more user friendly. Its geared towards new to linux users.
