Deadly asteroid headed for earth (poll)

The meteor you're thinking of and the meteor being discussed in this thread are two totally different things.

If the one Damink posted about hits the Earth in its current size, it'll do incredible amounts of damage. But it will probably decrease 90% in size because of Earth's atmosphere before it hits anything.

Also, Breshie, they don't get rid of meteors with missiles. They manipulate its path by hitting it with things (may or not be missiles, but they do not blow it up in space) and forcing a change around Earth's gravitational pull.

Hitting a meteor with missile would be bad, all the pieces would still fall and inflict damage.
But yeah, they can also and probably will change the path with a missile.

Unsure No, I think you should do some research. It's expected by the end of 2012 for something to happen, in December.

I hope that this does not happen for years to come. If it does... that would suck.

The audacity of human stupidity probably will if we don't have a natural disaster; we already are destroying ourselves with certain things we are doing on the planet. But i'm not willing to eliminate this as a possibility, as outstanding sparks of luck have been seen throughout history time and time again.

If NASA aren't worried then I'm not and therefore think it's false.
