People still use XP, so it's only logical that people still use Vista because they haven't upgraded yet, due to lack of time, laziness, or can't afford to do so (and perhaps more reasons too, but it's irrelevant and unnecessary to list or try to list all of them). I actually still have a 2000 machine that I use, compatibility purposes but it works fine. I also have 1 XP machine, 2 Vista machines, and now 2 Windows 7 machines in my house on the Microsoft side.

Vista isn't as bad as people make it out to be, if you know how to deal with computers properly, but unfortunately i'm sure 70% of the people who own one, don't fully understand what they are doing as much as they think they do. It's the reason why technical support is still in business.

I'm not sure though, Vista vs. XP, XP is more stable for several reasons, however the look of XP lol. I may as well just prefer my 2K machine over both, and I could do just fine, disregarding compatibility issues. But Windows 7 is a great machine. Why they changed it so drastically for Windows 8... *shrugs*

There are many mixed views, the metro UI being the most controversial part. People who are apposing it say that they are trying to hard to be able. The reasons for this most likely derive from the new Windows Store in comparison to the apple store. Also the same style for phone and PC seems to be copied as well. As Windows 8 was designed specifically with a tablet in mind. Though they still did keep in mind the PC. Though it is obvious to everyone that Windows is moving away from it's countless legacy and trying to start a new one, and they aren't afraid to show it. They are calling the old style, the legacy version and desktop.


Also another thing they updated that is controversial is Windows Explorer. They added lots of menus, ribbonbars, and buttons. Most of the features were already available, but just a tiny bit harder to get to. So basically they were simplifying it for people who traditionally aren't used to Windows. Many of the older Windows users don't like this change. Personally I love it, it looks better than the old way. From my standpoint, I love Windows 8 so far. I am actually pro metro. I like the design and how easy it is to organize. I can keep all my programming tools in one coloumn, and everything else in another. Plus the sidebar filled with what Windows dubbed Charms are pretty cool. This is where you can find the re-engineered search for Windows. It now also searches more things, and gives you the option to change between what you are searching for. As well as a couple other nifty charms are there as well.


There are tons of features most people that are testing the Windows 8 consumer preview don't even know about. Like the picture lock screen, which I thought was pretty ingenious. Also the whole idea of syncing up your Windows Live ID with your PC does make a lot of things easier. Also it made setting up Windows 8 in itself easier. Another thing many people don't know about is pinning apps to the side of your screen. There is many things I am sure people don't know about, including me with some.

Though either way, Windows 8 is the future. People will hate it at first, as it does lots of little things making everything a lot easier and more importantly faster which people tend not to notice, but people will grow very fond of it. Also it opens plenty of doors for programmers as well with the store. Which interests me greatly. Though the $100 USD fee is something that pisses me off a bit, though I will get over it to.

So, so far I would say Windows 8 is better than good, it is great.
