Those thinking about the military

Well I know it's a choice many people make but some of the members here are either getting to the age or are of age and have thought about it so here it is. Speaking from experience a recruiter will tell you anything he or she has to do to get you to join the military. There are some truthful recruiters but they are 1 in 100. Yeah I've heard a handful of stories about some people being misled and then be disappointed afterward.

Sad that they use these tactics but glad to see people like you giving legit advice for those genuinely interested.

My recruiter was actually pretty nice he was since replaced by a complete and utter douche.

I've considered going into a technological-software esque position with the Army when I get older. I'm still thinking about it.

Can you choose to going to a specific section? Such as recon drone controls? Or the front line, or do they choose for you?

To those thinking of joining; it's a fact that more soldiers die after the time they serve then actually what's killed while serving there time. They kill themselves because of what goes on over there. Don't let yourselves become one of those people, but it is your own choice.

I'd like to join the Marines as well, if you transfer from another branch (like the Army) do you keep your rank?

Okay there are a couple questions and I will answer them all. First off let me say Breshie shut the hell up. I don't know why your hound dogging my ass but your not even from the same country and if I recall we whooped your countries ass twice then pulled it out of the fire in WW2 so I don't even want to hear it. Okay onto the questions, D3xus there are many technological-software esque positions in any branch of the service it just depends what you want to be around. Fanta you choose an MOS and based on that is based on where you will be. If you favor controlling recon drones and the like the Air Force would be the best place for that. If you prefer front line duty then any branch will have their own form of it. The Army has Infantry, Mechanized Infantry, Tanks, Airborne, Rangers etc. The Marines have basically the same exact thing except their Rangers are Marine Force Recon. [M] and RooR I am going to answer both your questions at the same time as they are almost identical. What items are not allowed on base during boot camp is pretty basic and obvious. Weapons, Tobacco, Pornography, Jewelry ( with the exception of a wedding or engagement band, watch, religious necklace), Computers, Cell phones (with the Army they put your name on a bag and keep them in the head Drill sgts office and you get to make calls home once a week). Now if you want to transfer to another branch I do believe you keep your rank I know for a while the Army was offering bonus's if you transferred to them it curtailed your contract being extended but I believe you would go up a rank and get a 5k bonus.
