#1
I have had my forum for some time now, and we only have 2xx members. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I could promote my forum?

Post quality content on relevant websites with a subtle link to your forum. Let them know that if they join, they can find more of the type of content you displayed in your post. I suggest a better theme as well.

What theme would you recommend... I want one that isn't to overused.

A custom one is always best, but try and find not very well known but great designers who have free themes. I know a guy who is barely known, but makes some extremely sleek themes. I haven't seem them used elsewhere, either.

Try to get a theme with a suitable color scheme for iDevices, and make it so it's user-eye-friendly. I find your current one way too bright right now (the text).
Also advertise it through YouTube and chats.

google adsense gives away a lot of 100 dollar or 75 dollar promo codes for google adsense. it helps you get a lot of traffic!

IMHO forums success is nearly always determined by the admin.
Determination and actual knowlage of the topics is important.
But in all honesty i think its rare any new forum will take off.
Every possible topic and neiche has been used and used again.
Search any keyword and you will find a forum already populated.
I personally would never invest money on a forum now days if its just starting out.
Far to many forums on the net now.

My philosophy on the topic is: if you never give up and even after ~2years of ups and downs you will end up with a successful forum. Most forums don't last that long, and if you stick it out for 2 years all the others forums from your time period will have died out and your forum will be the "veteran forum" people want to go to.

Gee i wish that was the case for mine.
Its been going for YEARS and years mate.
Im sure the racism, sexism, foul mouths, vulgar language, pornography and all the other things FTW stands for prob does not help lolz.
Getting a little off topic there now lol.
I know of many forums that are years old that dont really have much traffic apart from the "regular" crew.

I guess it depends on the niche, if I remember correctly FTW was a board for you and your mates. I never thought you were trying to promote it.
