HF Support Feather
It amazes me that there is 16 pages of discussion over a little feather picture. Smile

Being a long time member here that feather's existence is like somebody coming along and knocking down your sand castle every once in a while after you have one built.

It's frustrating to see a forum like this, being treated as some kind of HF challenge to brag about another award on someone's profile. And the countless number of people that hit 100, and just completely discard SF login information for the rest of time.

^^ speaks for me as well.
I haven't been here as long, but you cant compare the quality an overall atmosphere of SF to HF. SF is, and always will be a great representation of HQ.

"Every forum has spammers" -- I believe this is an attempt to avoid the fact though that the spammers on this particular forum are created though by something that was intentionally added here though. Other forums don't have things that create spammers like SF does, because it's definitely something that forum owners want to avoid. But that is fine, to each their own in terms of a forum. But if you do have something that you know generates spammers, there should be prevention methods set in place to allow whatever it is that generates spammers, while getting rid of that "spammer" factor.

There's always going to be HF members though that don't care one bit about SF. So whether they know that their posts are slightly lacking in effort put towards the wordage before hitting that post button, it doesn't matter. As long as they get an award in the near future.

Nonetheless, it's good to see finally, some preventatives though that can reduce spamming here if Omni insists on keeping that award though.

I see where you're coming from. It's a shame that a good, quality forum such as this gets those kind of members. The one's I'm talking about, are the ones from Hack Forums that just have their mind set on one thing, and that is the little pixel award for their profile.
I won't make anything up, when I first joined Hack Forums, I thought it was a pretty awesome place. However, after seeing Support Forums not long after, I could really tell what forum has activity over quality. That would be Hack Forums, Support Forums is for those who are mature and aren't the top of the line troll.

Your point about the award does actually create more spammers, I don't disagree with you there, I was just stating no matter what the site would have a spammer of some kind, whether it be a post whore, or just someone trying to cause a problem. The award does some good though, it does get members to come here and to actually look at the site, without it, this site would likely be way less active than it is now. You will get your low quality members and your high quality ones. Gotta take the good with the bad, eh?

Well, you see. There have been members that enjoy this forum and hate for it to be lowered in quality due to the fact that people usually spammed to get this award in the past. It's like going to someone else's house and eating their last piece of cake. Plain ignorant and annoying.

Couldn't agree with you more.

This is true, but at some point we can't keep relying on the feather for activity to fall back on. Majority of users that come for the award never come back anyways, so how is that getting us further activity? It's getting us a higher post count for the forum, and thread count respectably, but if you can't keep members does that mean that you're permanently going to have to rely on that feather just to keep this forum alive?

I don't understand what is so obssesed with this award. Honestly, it's not very prestigeous to posses it.
A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore.

Just remember, the majority of HF are little children who get excited when they see colourful pictures next to their usernames.

To be fair, a couple of pixels can represent a lot.

Usually having more awards on HF makes your profile look better in some way. I'm here mainly for discussion though.

Extremely true in every sense of the word.
Reference the post where SF > HF.
