Yeah, that's what I was thinking more towards as well, green was a second best option for me, and if I was to place the others in this comparative ranking system, purple would come last.

I'd have to go for the purple TBH. I think it goes very nicely. But that's just a personal preference, not what's best for the blog. For the blog either red or green.

I've completely changed the theme because the other one was loading too slowly.

You need a darker bg to compliment the cat/feel of the site.

edit: Also that disclaimer won't hold up in court and so far everything you posted is mostly common sense. Nice concept, though.
