I actually don't see anything wrong with bumping an old thread.
What IS wrong about it is that most of the bumped threads come from spammers who don't care what date the original post was created. Therefore the post CONTENT is useless and warrants no reason as to WHY the thread was bumped. However if you do have something to add to an old thread, or contribute to it in some way, then I see no issue with bumping an old thread. That's the thing that other people have to remember though

I agree with what Ace said, I don't care if it's the original owner or if it's a product and someone asking, but if it's a spammer that's here to get the award, gtfo.

Bumped threads, ultimately puts the newer threads that people wait for a reply on... to the bottom, which is why people don't enjoy it. So as long as there's a good reason for bumping the old thread, then I don't mind it. But being a spammer is no reason, and frustrating to those that possibly have posted a thread for help I could imagine.
