This is a great tutorial but I feel as long as you know what you're downloading, as well as accessing, you should be fine.
Once you notice your computer run odd, I just do a scan with MBAM.

Or just not downloading things that you don't NEED. You can also run executables using sandboxie, which allows you to kill the process at anytime.
