I just bought this new drive yesterday at Future Shop because my old one wasn't transferring data very fast, something that happened recently. So I bought the new one, that says it has a 12MB/sec transfer speed but when I put a 700MB movie onto it from my PC, it transfers at roughly 1MB/sec but keeps going up slowly. What's up with that? I already tried using it on a different USB slot on my computer as well as testing the transfer speed with no other USB devices plugged in to decrease the odds of splitting the speed but no luck. Any advice? I'm regretting having bought the drive now because the problem might have been my computer...
Edit:
I just removed three USB devices from my computer (my external HD, my keyboard and my printer) and then tried again with the new drive and it improved. It was transferring data at roughly 3.97MB/sec. It's safe to say that I have too many USB devices connected to my computer which is dividing the speed but what I don't understand is the following:

- How can I have them all connected while still maintaining a good speed for all devices? (Don't recommend hubs because I heard they are worse because the split the speed just as much)
- And one more thing; the drive was topping out at about 4MB/sec like I said. The drive is supposed to transfer at 12MB/sec. That's what doesn't make sense. Even when I unplugged everything, it still wasn't able to attain it's full potential. Any ideas?
