One day there will be a more efficient way to stop DDoS attacks. I hope for that day to come soon, quite frankly.

A simple way to stop DDoS is re-routing it. But, without the knowledge, it's hard to do it and the admin will most probably just wait for it to stop and consume more bandwidth.

Also, there are some scripts and/or software installable to the server to PREVENT DDoS.
