I like to chew on things?
#21
the actual names used for this are 'stimming' and 'self stimulation' though the boring names for it that specialists use are 'stereotypy' and 'repetitive movements' .

people without any neurological/mental conditions, disorders, disabilities are commonly said to stim, but it isnt as obvious and it tends to be around specific stims only, like chewing pens, tapping leg/foot,tapping fingers etc.
with people who do have certain neurological or mental conditions such as the ADHD and the autism spectrums, stimming is highly common.
-for people purely on the ADHD spectrum, stimming is likely a unconcious counter reaction to the sensory and information overload that comes with ADHD [a specific part of ADHD,called executive dysfunction],and for those of us on the autism spectrum-we tend to stim a lot more as sensory and information overload issues are often a highly impairing part of the condition for many,we are also often impaired significantly in the various sensory systems, which can result in a lot more and sometimes-less stimming.

am extremely sensory seeking, and love pressure and stimming,am also severely autistic and have chewed through clothes, computer game covers, sticks, tough dog toys [new,of course!] etc, have always bitten through flesh to the point of bleeding so have to wear tough fingerless gloves, and also bang head as a stim, besides self injure that way.
another big stim is rocking,as will constantly rock whether standing or sitting, also flap hands and arms-always have to be moving.

-woud strongly recommend to everyone here, regardless of labels and neurological wiring, check out:
http://www.rompa.com/cgi-bin/rompa.storefront
-ROMPA,if from the UK.
-also if from the UK,just go to http://www.ebay.co.uk and search 'sensory toys',but to show an example heres one am guessing woud come in useful with SF guys:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GREEN-SUPER-CHEWY-...43a3ea0930

and for those outside of the UK,check out TFH aka special needs toys at:
http://www.specialneedstoys.com they have stores in most big countries,
just search for 'chew',they sell the chew toys there.

am a user of all the shops have linked to [including the ebay one, which has its own site] and can vouch for their reliability and postage.

can also recommend looking into weighted blankets or weighted lap pads,as well as chew toys,as these are good calmers for sensory seekers [aka stimmers].

hope none of this has been confusing, its all written from own mind, not copied-as pyschology,in particular autism,ASD and learning disabilities have always been of interest.

A lot of people like to chew on things, it's not that abnormal. But it can be bad for you're teeth depending on what you chew on.

Nothing to worry about, it's just some sort of mannerism. In my whole life (technically) growing up in a clinic and a hospital, I haven't seen a patient whose problem is chewing on things or a serious problem that was caused by chewing on something. Though I once saw this hid who had stomach pains for chewing on his own hair; he probably swallowed some.
